TEST INSTRUCTIONS

  • If you test the ph and notice that the color of the water turns to a purplish shade, that means that the ph level is high, indicating that you would need to put liquid or dry acid to lower the ph level.
  • If you test the ph and notice that the color of the water turns to a orangish shade of color, then that means that the ph is low and you would need to add soda ash to raise it to the "ideal" range.
  • If you test the chlorine/bromine and notice that there is no color to the tube, or it is a very light shade of yellow, that means that the level is low and you would need to add chlorine or bromine to raise it to its ideal range
  • If you test the chlorine/bromine and notice that it is a bright yellow color, or sometimes when its very high it turns almost to an orange color, that means the level is very high and you would need to wait for it to get lower before swimming. Evaporation helps with the chlorine or bromine level getting lower.

    Highlights

    •  Test the Chlorine/Bromine, pH, Alkalinity and Acid demand levels of your pool

    • Helps to understand where your chlorine and bromine levels are depending on which you use and whether it is a pool or spa. If you get a reading that your chlorine/bromine level is high, just dont add any more and wait a few days the levels should drop due to the evaporation. If you test the water and the chlorine/bromine levels are low, then add the necessary chemicals to help increase it to the range its supposed to be at.

    • If you test the ph and the ph is high, then add liquid or dry acid to bring the ph down. If you test the ph and the ph is low, then add soda ash to help increase the ph of the water.

    • Alkalinity is important to be in balance to, because it helps prevent the ph from fluctuating to much. If you test the alkalinity, and it is lower then where its supposed to be, then add alkalinity increaser to help bring it to the level its supposed to be at. However, if you test the water and the alkalinity is high, then you just need to use liquid or dry acid which will eventually help bring the alkalinity level down.

    INSTRUCTIONS FOR 5 WAY & 6 WAY OTO TEST KIT (B7746C, B7448, B7550)

    1. Rinse test tubes before and after each test.
    2. Obtain water samples from 18” below pool or spa surface
and away from any water return outlet.
    3. Spill water from tube until level with test line mark on tube.
    4. Hold dropper bottle vertically over tube and add one drop at a time and swirl after each drop to mix.
    5. Perform test in shaded area, viewing test results against a lighted background
    6. Store test kit in a cool, dark place.
    7. Replace test solutions at the start of each season.
    8. Do not dispose of test solutions in pool or spa.
PRUEBA DE CLORO DO NOT PERFORM FOLLOWING TEST IF TOTAL AVAILABLE CHLORINE EXCEEDS
5.0 PPM OR IF TOTAL ACTIVE BROMINE EXCEEDS 11.0 PPM
    CHLORINE TEST
    1. Fill CL tube to mark with pool or
    spa water.
    2. Add 5 drops of solution #1.
    3. Always replace cap on CL tube
(do not use finger) and invert tube
several times to mix OTO with water.
Avoid skin & clothing contact with OTO.
    Free Chlorine Reading:
    Immediately compare tube color with
    adjacent color standard. The result
is read in parts per million (PPM).
    Combined Chlorine reading:
Wait 2-3 minutes and compare again
    to determine Combined Chlorine
    level. A large difference between
    free and combined chlorine indicates
a need to superchlorinate / shock
    treatment.
    TOTAL ACTIVE BROMINE
    1. Fill CL tube to mark with pool or
    spa water.
    2. Add 5 drops of solution #1.
    3. Always replace cap on CL tube
(do not use finger) and invert tube
several times to mix OTO with water.
Avoid skin & clothing contact with OTO.
    4. Compare color in vial with
    bromine standards to determine
    Total Active Bromine.
    pH TEST
    (Degree of acidity or alkalinity)
    1. Fill large tube to pH mark with pool
    or spa water.
    2. Add 1 drop of solution #4, swirl to
    mix.
    3. Add 5 drops of solution #2, swirl to
    mix.
NOTE: If the pH reading is above 7.6,
save the test sample and proceed to
    the Acid Demand test
    ACID DEMAND TEST
    1. Using water sample from pH test,
add solution #3, one drop at a time,
    swirling between drops.
    2. Count drops needed to change
color to nearly match 7.4 - 7.6 pH
color standard. Do not count drops
which give a 7.2 reading or below.
    3. Remember the number of drops
added and refer to the Acid Demand
Chart in the test kit booklet to
determine quantity of acid (liquid or
    dry) required.
    NOTE:
    A. Add no more than 1 pint (or 1/2
liter) of liquid acid or dry equivalent to
each 10,000 gallons (or 40,000 liters)
of water capacity in any one day.
    B. Never add acid and chlorine at the
    same time.
    C. Always add acid while filter is
    running.
    D. Add acid in area away from
    skimmer and metal fixtures.
    TOTAL ALKALINITY TEST
    1. Fill large tube to total alkalinity test
line with pool or spa water.
    2. Add 1 drop of solution #4 and swirl
    to mix.
    3. Add 2 drops of solution #5 and swirl
    to mix.
    4. Add solution #3 one drop at a time,
    swirl between drops.
    5. Count drops needed to change
color from blue to clear or slightly
    yellow.
    6. Multiply the number of drops x 10 to
obtain PPM (parts per million) reading.
    EXAMPLE: 8 drops x 10 = 80 PPM.
Ideal total alkalinity is 80-120 PPM for
plaster finished pools or 120-150 PPM
for vinyl, painted or fiberglass pools. If
your reading is less than desired, add
sodium bicarbonate at the rate of 1-1/2
lbs per 10,000 gallons of water to raise
the total alkalinity by 10 PPM. If more
than desired, acid is usually needed.
    Perform the Acid Demand Test.
