The Taylor Chromate Indicator (R-0630-A) is a 0.75 oz (22 ml) reagent used in conjunction with Taylor test kits to measure sodium chloride (salt) levels in pool and spa water. When added to a 10 mL water sample, it produces a yellow color change, indicating the presence of chloride ions. Subsequent titration with Silver Nitrate Reagent (R-0718) leads to a milky red or salmon color change, allowing for precise determination of salt concentration. This reagent is essential for maintaining optimal salt levels in saltwater pools, ensuring efficient operation of salt chlorine generators. Proper storage between 36°F and 85°F (2°C–29°C) and away from direct sunlight preserves its effectiveness. Taylor formulates its reagents to remain effective for at least one year under appropriate storage conditions; therefore, regular replacement of reagents, ideally annually or at the start of a new testing season, is recommended to ensure accurate water chemistry readings.
