Overview

Celatom is diatomaceous earth (DE) filter powder for pool and spa DE filters. It coats the filter grids and traps very fine dirt, down to about 2 microns, so the water comes out clear. You need fresh DE after every backwash or grid cleaning, so a 25 lb supply covers several recharges.

Questions

How much DE should I add?It depends on your filter. Check the filter's manual or label. For example, Hayward lists 6 lbs for its 48 sq. ft. ProGrid DE4820 and 7.5 lbs for the 60 sq. ft. DE6020.
Can I use DE in a sand or cartridge filter?DE is made for DE filters. Sand and cartridge filters are not designed to use it as the filter coating.
Is the dust safe to breathe? No. The maker's safety sheet says it contains crystalline silica. Pour it gently and wear a dust mask (N95) and eye protection.
