Pool App Control Setup: Pentair, Hayward & Jandy

A pool app control setup links your pool automation panel to a smartphone app, giving you the ability to run your pump, heater, lights, and cleaner from anywhere. Whether you own a Pentair IntelliConnect, Hayward OmniLogic, or Jandy iAquaLink system, the steps follow the same pattern: confirm your hardware, connect the module to Wi-Fi, download the app, pair your equipment, and start running everything from your phone.

As an authorized dealer for all three brands, we at Discount Pool Mart have walked hundreds of LA-area homeowners through this exact process. I put this guide together so you can handle it yourself - or at least know what to expect if you call us to help.

What You Need Before You Start

Before you touch your phone, gather a few things. Missing even one item will stall the setup.

Hardware Modules by Brand

Each brand requires a specific WiFi or network module to bridge your automation panel and your smartphone. Here is a quick reference:

Brand Hardware Module App Name iOS Android
Pentair IntelliConnect or ScreenLogic Interface Pentair Pool App Store Google Play
Hayward OmniLogic / OmniHub (built-in Wi-Fi) OmniLogic App Store Google Play
Jandy iAquaLink Module iAquaLink App Store Google Play

Network and Device Requirements

Nearly every pool Wi-Fi module requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Most modern routers broadcast both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. If yours combines them into a single network name, you may need to split the bands or temporarily disable 5 GHz during setup. Your smartphone should run iOS 15 or later, or Android 10 or later. Keep your router's network name and password within reach.

Quick Checklist:

  • Hardware module installed on or near your automation panel
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network with a strong signal at the equipment pad
  • Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password written down
  • iPhone or Android phone running the latest OS
  • Correct app downloaded (see table above)

For a broader look at what pool automation systems can do, read our pool automation system guide.

Step 1: Identify Your Pool Automation System

Walk out to your equipment pad and look at the front panel of your automation controller. You will find a brand name and model number printed on a label or stamped into the housing.

  • Pentair panels include IntelliCenter, EasyTouch, and SunTouch. The Pentair EasyTouch 8-Function system is one of the most common we see across LA-area backyards. IntelliCenter panels have built-in Ethernet and connect through IntelliConnect or ScreenLogic. EasyTouch panels pair with the IntelliConnect module.
  • Hayward panels include OmniLogic and OmniHub. The OmniLogic controller has built-in Wi-Fi, so you don't need a separate module.
  • Jandy panels include the AquaLink RS series. These connect through the iAquaLink module, which plugs directly into the panel's communication port.

Not sure which system you have? The label on the front door of the automation panel tells the story. You can also reach out to our team at Discount Pool Mart for a quick ID. If you're still deciding between brands, our guide on pool automation brands compared breaks down the differences.

Step 2: Connect the Hardware Module to Your Network

This step gets the physical module talking to your home Wi-Fi. Each brand handles it a bit differently.

Pentair IntelliConnect Setup

Power the IntelliConnect module by connecting it to your automation panel's communication port. A solid green LED means the module has power. Press and hold the WPS button on the module, then press the WPS button on your router within two minutes. You can also use the module's temporary Bluetooth signal to enter your Wi-Fi credentials through the Pentair Pool app. Once connected, the Wi-Fi LED turns solid blue.

I find the Bluetooth method more reliable than WPS, especially on routers where WPS has been disabled for security reasons.

Hayward OmniLogic App Setup

The OmniLogic controller includes a built-in wireless antenna. From the OmniLogic touchscreen on the panel, go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Setup. Select your 2.4 GHz network and enter the password. The controller confirms the connection on-screen.

Jandy iAquaLink Setup

Plug the iAquaLink module into your AquaLink panel's RS-485 communication port. Connect the included Ethernet cable to your router, or use the module's Wi-Fi setup mode. Power up the module and wait for the status LED to blink green - that means it's searching for a network. Register the module's serial number at iaqualink.com to link it to your account.

Firmware Update Reminder: Before pairing, confirm your module runs the latest firmware. Outdated firmware is the number-one cause of pairing failures we see across our LA-area installations. Check the manufacturer's support page for the current version and update through the app or a USB connection if needed.

Step 3: Download the Pool Control App and Create Your Account

Pentair Pool App Instructions

Download "Pentair Pool" (formerly Pentair Home) from the App Store or Google Play. Open the app, tap Create Account, and enter your email. Verify through the confirmation email, then log in. The app works on both iPhone and Android with identical features.

Hayward OmniLogic App

Search for "Hayward OmniLogic" in your app store. Create an account using your email and a password. Once verified, log in and the app will prompt you to add your OmniLogic system.

Jandy iAquaLink App

Download "iAquaLink" from the App Store or Google Play. If you already registered your module at iaqualink.com, use the same credentials to log in. Otherwise, create a new account and add your module's serial number.

Step 4: Pair the App with Your Pool Equipment

Pentair Pairing Steps

  1. Open the Pentair Pool app and tap Add Device.
  2. Select your system type (IntelliCenter or EasyTouch with IntelliConnect).
  3. The app scans for nearby devices through Bluetooth or your local network.
  4. Select your system from the list and confirm the serial number displayed.
  5. The app loads your equipment profile automatically.

Hayward Pairing Steps

  1. Open the OmniLogic app and tap Add System.
  2. Enter the system's serial number (printed on the OmniLogic controller).
  3. The app connects to the Hayward cloud and discovers your equipment.
  4. Confirm the equipment list matches your physical setup.

Jandy Pairing Steps

  1. Open the iAquaLink app and tap My Devices.
  2. Tap Add New Device and enter the iAquaLink module's serial number.
  3. The app connects through Jandy's cloud service and pulls your equipment list.
  4. Verify each piece of equipment shows the correct label.

Step 5: Set Up Pump, Heater, Lights, and Cleaner Controls

With pairing complete, you can configure each piece of equipment inside the app. This is the part where a smart pool automation app really starts to pay off.

Pool Pump Speeds and Schedules

Set your variable-speed pump to run at different RPMs throughout the day. Most apps let you create multiple schedule blocks - low speed for filtration overnight, high speed for vacuuming midday. For a deep look at optimizing run times, check out our guide on pool pump scheduling to save energy.

Pool Heater Temperature and Modes

Tap the heater icon, set your target water temperature, and choose between "Pool" and "Spa" mode if your system supports both. I pre-heat before every swim so the water is ready when I step outside - it's one of my favorite benefits of remote pool control.

Pool LED Lights and Color Scenes

All three apps support color LED light control. Pick a fixed color, cycle through a light show, or set scenes for different times of day. Pentair's app supports IntelliBrite and Color Sync modes. Hayward handles ColorLogic lights. Jandy controls JandyColors LED fixtures.

Pool Cleaner Scheduling

If your automation system controls a booster pump or dedicated cleaner circuit, you can schedule cleaning cycles through the app. Some robotic cleaners, like the BWT pool robotic cleaner with app control, run their own standalone app alongside your main automation app.

Feature Pentair Pool App Hayward OmniLogic App Jandy iAquaLink App
Variable-speed pump control Yes Yes Yes
Heater temperature setting Yes Yes Yes
LED light color/scenes Yes Yes Yes
Cleaner on/off scheduling Yes Yes Yes
Water chemistry monitoring Yes (with ChemCheck) Yes (with Sense & Dispense) Limited
Push notifications Yes Yes Yes

Step 6: Test Remote Control and Turn On Notifications

Before calling it done, run through a quick verification.

Post-Setup Verification Checklist:

  1. Toggle the pump on and off from the app. Walk out and confirm the pump responds.
  2. Adjust the heater temperature up by two degrees. Confirm the heater fires.
  3. Change the light color. Confirm the lights shift.
  4. Turn the cleaner circuit on. Confirm the cleaner activates.
  5. Turn on push notifications for equipment faults, temperature alerts, and filter pressure warnings.
  6. Leave the equipment pad, drive a few blocks away, and test remote pool control over cellular data (not Wi-Fi) to confirm cloud connectivity works.

If every item passes, your pool app control setup is complete. You now have full control of your pool from your phone - whether you're running the pool app control setup on iPhone or testing pool app control setup on Android.

Fixing Common App Connection Issues

We've diagnosed hundreds of connection problems across LA-area pools. Here are the issues that come up again and again.

Symptom Likely Cause Fix
App cannot find the module Module not powered or not on 2.4 GHz network Verify LED status lights; confirm router broadcasts 2.4 GHz
Wi-Fi connection drops repeatedly Weak signal at the equipment pad Move the router closer, add a Wi-Fi extender, or run an Ethernet cable to the module
Firmware mismatch error Module firmware is outdated Update firmware through the app or manufacturer's website before retrying
App shows equipment offline Cloud service interruption or module lost network Reboot the module by cycling its power; check your internet connection
Bluetooth pairing times out Phone is too far from module or Bluetooth is off Stand within 10 feet of the module and confirm Bluetooth is enabled on your phone

A good rule of thumb: if the status LED on the module is not solid green or blue, the network connection is the problem, not the app.

When to Call a Professional

Some situations go beyond a phone-and-app setup:

  • You need a new Wi-Fi module installed and wired into the automation panel.
  • Your automation panel needs a board upgrade to support app connectivity.
  • The equipment pad sits more than 80 feet from your router and no extender solves the signal problem.
  • You see persistent "equipment offline" errors after following every troubleshooting step.

Frequently Asked Questions

What app can I use to control my pool lights? You can control pool LED lights through the Pentair Pool app (for IntelliBrite and Color Sync fixtures), the Hayward OmniLogic app (for ColorLogic lights), or the Jandy iAquaLink app (for JandyColors LEDs). Each pool control app lets you select colors, run light shows, and schedule on/off times.

Is there an app that can control my pool heater? Yes. All three major pool automation apps let you set a target water temperature and turn your gas heater or heat pump on and off remotely. You need the matching Wi-Fi module connected to your automation panel for the app to communicate with the heater.

How do I set up the Pentair pool app? Download the Pentair Pool app, create an account, and connect your IntelliConnect or ScreenLogic module to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Open the app, tap Add Device, and follow the on-screen pairing wizard to discover your equipment. The full Pentair pool app instructions are covered in Steps 2 through 4 above.

Can I control my pool from my iPhone and Android? Yes. Pentair Pool, Hayward OmniLogic, and Jandy iAquaLink apps are all available on both iOS and Android. Features are the same across platforms, so your pool app control setup on iPhone and pool app control setup on Android will look identical.

Do I need Wi-Fi to use a pool control app? You need Wi-Fi for the initial setup and for the module's ongoing connection to the cloud. WiFi pool control systems depend on that persistent connection. Once paired, you can control your pool remotely over any internet connection on your phone, including cellular data.

How far can Wi-Fi reach to my pool equipment pad? A standard home router reaches about 150 feet indoors and up to 300 feet outdoors with a clear line of sight, according to the Wi-Fi Alliance. Walls, fences, and metal equipment enclosures reduce that range. In our experience, equipment pads more than 60 to 80 feet from the router often benefit from a dedicated Wi-Fi extender or a direct Ethernet run.
